Mayday Parade Shines Once Again With 'Valdosta'

Review by Aly Avina

Coming off their sophomore album, Anywhere But HereMayday Parade delivers a solid acoustic 6-track EP to give their fans a taste of new music until their third full-length album releases (set for summer 2011).  Valdosta starts and begins with 2 new tracks titled “Amber Lynn” and “Terrible Things” with four songs in between from their previous albums done acoustically, two of which were written while former member Jason Lancaster was still with Mayday Parade.

Mayday Parade focused on their softer side with Valdosta, and gave substantial hope and excitement for their anticipated third album release with their two new tracks.  The re-imaginings of four previously released songs loved by fans were done with simplicity but ample effort, and will leave their fans feeling fully satisfied.

Their two new tracks, “Amber Lynn” and “Terrible Things” are the most impressive of the album.  The two songs feature stories about love and heartbreak which aren’t entirely new for this band, but they are still able to showcase all of their strong musical abilities. They ended with a beautiful piano ballad with “Terrible Things,” which flowed well with Derek Sanders’ emotional vocal deliveries and [lead guitarist] Alex Garcia’s backup vocals going into the melodies with ease. It came to a head with a sharp full-band performance.  MP fans and those alike will not be disappointed by this album.
