A Skylit Drive's Identity On Fire Combines Intensity and Introspection Perfectly

Review by Anthony Avina

One of the more popular rock genres to take the stage in the past decade is the intense, hard-hitting music of post hardcore and experimental rock. Among elite artists such as Chiodos and Underoath, another band has become well known and established in this realm. That band is A Skylit Drive, and they have proven over the course of the past six years that they are here to stay. With the recent release of their fourth album, Identity on Fire, the band is beginning to establish themselves as a powerhouse in the genre.

Featuring Michael “Jag” Jagmin on vocals, guitarists Nick Miller and Joey Wilson, bassist Brian White (who also provides the intense screaming to the vocals), drummer Cory La Quay and Kyle Simmons on keys, Identity On Fire is a combination of mind-blowing guitar work, melodic vocals, and powerful lyrics about dealing with things we all struggle with from one time to another in our lives.  With such songs as Carry the Broken, Too Little Too Late, and Ex Marks the Spot to back up their powerful studio album, the band showcases musical talent and a creative artistic style that is appealing well beyond their own chosen genre.  With a busy tour schedule coming up, including Warped Tour 2011, the band is sure to show the world what they are made of, and why fans have reacted to them with such strong support.  We look forward to catching up with them this summer.
